The Doctrine and Covenants Project is committed to exploring and preserving the shared scriptural heritage of the Latter Day Saint movement in a manner that upholds universal ethical principles and respects human dignity. However, certain denominations and groups within the broader movement are excluded from this project based on the following considerations:
- Denominations Excluded: The project explicitly excludes groups such as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) and the Apostolic United Brethren, among others, due to their documented histories and practices that are inconsistent with the project’s values.
- Non-Condonation of Harmful Practices: The project does not condone violence, sexual assault, or any other violations of recognized laws. We stand firmly against any form of behavior or doctrine that promotes harm, exploitation, or abuse of individuals.
- Commitment to Ethical Principles: Guided by the Golden Rule—treat others as you would want to be treated—we seek to foster a spirit of inclusivity, respect, and shared learning. This includes ensuring that the scriptures and historical interpretations within the project are not used to justify harm or discrimination.
- Right to Exclusion: We reserve the right to exclude certain denominations, groups, or interpretations on moral, ethical, and legal grounds, particularly where there is evidence of repeated use of scripture to violate the principles of human rights, justice, and mutual respect.
This exclusion is not intended as a broad judgment against the beliefs or practices of individuals but as a necessary measure to ensure the integrity, safety, and alignment of the Doctrine and Covenants Project with universally recognized standards of ethical conduct.
