1835 Doctrine and Covenants

The 1835 Doctrine and Covenants is a significant scripture in the Latter Day Saint movement, first published in Kirtland, Ohio. It builds upon the earlier Book of Commandments, incorporating many of Joseph Smith’s revelations, often expanded or revised, along with additional sections. This edition is notable for its organizational structure, a preface, and an introduction known as the “Lectures on Faith,” which provided theological instruction. The book includes key doctrines, church governance principles, and instructions for the growing church. Unlike the Book of Commandments, it reflects a more developed theology and institutional framework. The 1835 Doctrine and Covenants became a central text for the movement and is a predecessor to later editions used by various Latter Day Saint denominations.
